Kashmir hosts large 'Iftar' ceremony in Srinagar

TEHRAN, Jul. 12 (MNA) – The tourism department of Kashmir in South Asia organized an Iftar party on Saturday with around 3000 Muslims attending it.

On Saturday, the tourism department of Kashmir government organized an Iftar - the evening meal when Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset- which received around 3000 people, thus making it one of Asia’s largest Iftar.

To make it to Limca Book of World records, the event managers spread carpets around Dal Lake starting from Kralsangri crossing near to Nishat Mughal Garden Srinagar.

The grand Iftar which was served on the street may be the biggest event in Kashmir’s recent history so far; People, majorly families, attended the Iftar and were provided with water, dates, bananas and other sweet dishes by the organizers.

Buses were seen ferrying students of Islamic schools free of cost while people voluntarily distributed fruits and other sweet dishes amongst the assembled people.

“This event was path-breaking,” Murtaza, an engineer said, “I haven’t seen so many people gathered together and being this happy before; we would usually assemble like this for mourning.”

“At least, we got a reason to get together and enjoy this soothing breeze after a hard day’s work in hot conditions,” a man in his mid-forties said.

Meanwhile, every year during the holy month of Ramadan, Iran’s shrine city of Mashhad hosts the biggest fast-breaking meal or “Iftar” in the world. Some 360 thousand people are served food to break their fast.
